heh okay okay, i'm a day late for this, but can't blame me for that! after all i spent 12 hours in airports and airplanes yesterday! oh wells (:
hmmm well this year's the first time in 3 years that i didn't write christmas cards... of course, that's because i was cooped up in australia the entire time, so couldn't find time to write cards this time ): but ah wells, there'll still be stuff like primers handover and birthdays to write cards for i guess (:
oh, and as a random thought, this video is too cute not to post! okay admittedly it's rather sad... but i don't know why i find it so adorable and funny too!!!
hehe okay well anyway, on to other stuff.
honestly speaking, i can't say i was terribly excited about christmas. i mean, i wasn't moaning its arrival of course, but it was more of an "oh well, christmas is coming, okay then" kinda thing. it didn't really feel like christmas, since there wasn't any of the usual christmas decorations hanging around, and there wasn't anything done to make christmas feel like a special holiday. i'm not one of those that wants to see the so-called 'magic of christmas', nor am i one of those that yearns for gifts and stuff. but it felt like people weren't throwing any sort of a celebration for the birthday of the most important person around.
but in the end, as always, God shone through (: what i came to realised is that Jesus doesn't need us to throw Him a birthday celebration. that's not what He needs, especially if the 'celebrations' are rooted with the wrong motives. after all, they probably wouldn't have decorated the entire town back in the olden days. rather, what He wants is our hearts; our hearts devoted to Him.
for christmas, the most meaningful celebration takes place in our hearts.
of course i'm not saying that everything else we do for christmas is meaningless and frivolous! there's certainly a place for stuff like gatherings and big events, for it's a celebration of the occasion on a corporate level! and there's a need for that as well (:
but i guess at the heart of it all, we need to make sure that the essence of christmas is captured in our hearts, that we remember how Jesus was born into our world to be killed for our sakes, and in turn we give our hearts undivided attention to Him (: it's the gift He'd love best (:
for me personally, i was pulled close to God on christmas eve itself (: it was really such a relief, such a joy, to be drawn back to God, and no better time for it to happen (: there's no other place that i'd rather be than in the arms of Jesus my Saviour :D
so, what makes christmas special each year? God's love is what makes it special (: and when we receive such a priceless gift, shouldn't we too return His gift with what we can, our love which is nothing compared to His! :D
